Idanha

Idanha's original name was Muskrat Camp; however it later adopted the name Idanha, a name that was inspired by The Natural Mineral Water Company in Soda Springs, Idaho. This soda company bottled water called "Idan-Ha." the Oregon Pacific Railroad system was completed along the North Santiam River up to Idanha in 1889. All construction ceased at the end of that year and there was little activity in the area until 1895 when the Idanha post office was established, with first postmaster Alma Kriesel. The city was later incorporated in 1950.

Idanha is a beautiful little town, nestled in the canyon with majestic Mt. Jefferson being a major scenic attraction. Approximately three miles upstream from Detroit, Idanha is the eastern gate and highest elevation of the North Santiam Canyon cities. It lies along the North Santiam River halfway between Salem and Sisters. Idanha's boundaries span a 2-1/2 mile stretch of Oregon's Highway 22.

Businesses in Idanha include a local store, cafe, post office, library and a wood products manufacturer. The town uses city water. There is an RV and camping park within the city on the North Santiam River, as well as several other RV and camping parks nearby. Idanha is home to Idanha City Park.
